Why is this? |
I'd just started out to learn Java in December 1996 (though I've been programming for many years). So I did what I usually do when starting something new: I bought some books. And I started searching the Web for tools, information, hints, examples, and what not. Then, at the office (my day-time job, not Taxon which is my own company), the idea came up to start a small work group so we could help each other learning Java. I promised I'd put up a page with links to what I already found. Meanwhile, I continued searching... After just a week, my collection of links had grown a lot - I'd ordered the links into categories, and put each category on its own page. Time to put it on line! Almost as soon as I did and registered the site at a few places, I got an award for the site, and a stream of visitors. I realized this "page" for my colleagues had seriously got out of hand: Java Woman somehow put me on a roller coaster and I can't get off. (Not that I want to!) Well, I've more often made my work out of my hobby or made a hobby out of my work. Go with the flow. Meanwhile, the Java Woman site is alive and well, and growing! The site has already acquired a steady stream of visitors. So why don't you join them? If you are interested in what's happening in the Java world you should check back regularly: the site is updated often, and on the News page you'll find daily Java-related news headlines. I've also actually started doing some Java programming myself... So there's a page with my very own first applets and a class. As I learn more, and write some more applets or classes that might be useful or interesting for others, I'll extend this section. |
